姫島
「おおいた姫島ジオパーク」と島そのものがジオパーク。別府に訪れた際、地元の方に「姫島に行く」と告げると「今行ってもなにもないでしょ」とか「車海老だね〜」と言われてしまいましたがフェリーに乗って姫島へ。姫島では自転車を借りてジオサイトを訪れました。インフォメーションセンター ジオパーク天一根 で島についての概要を掴んでから回るのがよいでしょう。(2017年12月)
Himeshima(Island)
Himeshima is an island and it takes 20 minutes by ferry from the main land Kyushu. The island was formed from several volcanos activities occurred after 300,000 years ago. You can rent bicycle to visit go around the island and visit geological sites. You may want to visit information center Geo Park Amanohitotsune to learn more about the island. (2017. Dec）
観音崎
ここでは観音崎火口跡と黒曜岩を観察することができます。ここでみられる黒曜岩は灰色と乳白色が混ざったような色で、通常よく見られる黒くてキラリと光る光沢ではなく、ツヤ感が感じられるような石でした。(2017年12月)
Kannonzaki
This is observation points for Kannonnzaki Crater (small circle on the coast) and obsidian. The obsidian rock color is mix of gray and milky white, that is different from black and shiny rocks commonly seen. (2017. Dec）

海蝕崖
この辺りは丸石鼻層に属し、約200万年前の地層と考えられています。アケボノゾウがいたそうで化石が発見されています(2017年12月)
Sea Cliff
The cliff is Maruishibana Formation, which is believed to be formed 2Ma where were Metasequoia woods and Stegodon Aurorae lived around that time. The cliff is also called "Taka no Su" which means "nest of hawk" though falcons are actually nestling. (2017. Dec）

大海のコンボリュートラミナ
ここのコンボリュートラミナは屋根瓦の様と例えられますが、繊細で美しいです。この地層は約60万年前に堆積したものだそうです。(2017年12月)
Convolute Lamination
Convolute Lamination here is likened to Japanese roof tile because of the repeated and same size of waves shown in a line. It is believed that the layer was sedimented about 600,000 years ago. (2017. Dec）

金溶岩と拍子水
約6万～8万年前に活動した金火山の溶岩跡、またその脇には鉱泉が湧き出す「拍子水」があります(2017年12月)
Kane Lava & Hyoshimizu
Kane volcano is believed to have been active between 800,000 and 600,000 years ago. Hyoshimizu is mineral spring and you can watch bubbling water. (2017. Dec）
