湯釜（草津白根山）

草津白根山の火口湖です。火山活動が継続しているため近くに行くことはできませんが、ふもとの駐車場から観察場所まで登りきったところに現れる水色の美しい湖には遠くからでも感動させられます（訪問時は半径500m圏内の立ち入り規制）。

湖は直径約300m、水深約30m、また湖の底から湧き出す賛成の火山ガスが水に溶け込んでいるため、pHが1.0前後だそうです。かつては湖底や沿岸にできる硫黄を鉱山会社が採取していたそうです。（2017年9月）

 

（追記）​​湯釜から南に約2kmに位置する本白根山が2018年1月23日、3,000年ぶりに噴火しました。（2018年1月）

（追記）​​湯釜周辺で火山性地震が増加し、噴火警戒レベルが2に引き上げられました。（2018年4月）

Yugama (Kusatsu Shirane san)

Yugama is crater lake of Mt. KusatsuShirane. Due to the continuing volcano activity, it is not allowed to access to the lake. When I visited, within 500m from the crater was off-limts.

The lake has 300m diameter, 30m depth and 1.0 pH because volcanic gas bubbling. 

Mine company used to excavate sulfur on the bottom and around the lake. (2017. Sep)

Mt MotoShirane, 2km south from the Yugama erupted on Jan 23, 2018 after silence for 3,000 years. (2018. Jan)
