Oirase Gorge

Oirase river is the only outflowing rivers out of Lake Towada. The uniqueness of this gorge is  relatively wide bottom that allows pathway and roadway are along on the same height. In Japan, there are many gorges and most of them are V-shaped that have been formed by erosion taking long time.  Due to the terrain, the access to those gorge is usually limited.

However, Oirase gorge is U-shaped, formed by the torrent at once from Lake Towada (caldear) that had no outflowing river until that time.  This flat bottom landscape provides easy access to the river and pathway at the same level. You can enjoy easy hike along the river and find some waterfalls and rocks.
